Monday 23rd March 2020

Good morning Year 6! Mr Wakeling here! I've recorded a video for you below. Have a look through at your own pace, pausing wherever you need to. Of course, I'm no YouTube or TikTok star so bare with me whilst I get my head around the technology.

Please comment below with questions or answers to earn a place on the home learning heroes board to the right!

Mrs Gardner coming back to school is going to go ahead as planned before the school closed. This means I will be setting some tasks, and Mrs Gardner will be setting others, you lucky lot have two teachers for a while! You'll be able to tell who has uploaded as we will put our initials at the top of each post. SG - Mrs Gardner   or     AW - Mr Wakeling.
Today's Tasks!
Spelling
Please start with the first list of spelling words and try to complete two of the tasks from the spelling success snake!

Maths
Using the formula below, please work out the circumference and area of Mrs Coulter's Airship from the Golden Compass film. The radius of the whole airship is 10 meters, the radius of just the front window is 5 meters.
1. What is the diameter of the whole airship?
2. What is the circumference of the whole airship?
3. What is the area of the whole airship?
4. What is the area of the airship's window?
5. What is the area of the whole airship without the window in the front?

FORMULA

diameter = 2 x radius
circumference = 2 x pi x radius
area = pi x radius squared.
Remember - to square a number you just times it by itself.
Remember - pi is equal to 3.14 and you may use a calculator to work these out!

English
1. Start your coronavirus home diaries please. This may never happen again and you'll value a diary about what you did when you get older.
2. Describe the scene as Mrs Coulter's Airship comes into land in the city.

Topic
Research the icy region of Svalbard. Why don't many people live there? What's their diet like? Why don't Inuit people live in Svalbard? Are there any interesting places to visit? Do they have any famous people? What about sports?

Stay awesome Year 6! Have a lovely day :-)
