Bore da pawb! Sut wyt ti teimlo heddiw?!

It's been really good to see all of your work going on at home! You're clearly all working really hard! Keep up to date with those spelling snakes and remember, even reading for just 20 minutes a day (any book of your choice) will keep your brain working. You can balance your time with gaming or anything else you want to do as well.

The key is keeping the variety going!

Today's Tasks:

Maths  - Access the TopMarks teaching clock here;

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock
I'd like you to try and create as many times on the clock as possible, become familiar with how it works and the difference between 12hr and 24hr clocks when it comes to both digital and analogue clocks. We covered time previously back in December, and you were all pretty confident with it. See if you can create the following times on the clock, and if you can draw clock hands into your books to show your answers then even better! If not, get a parent to check your answers as you go.

English
Try to use all of your skills in English to write a persuasive article for the local newspaper about why it is so important for everyone to stay isolated over the coming months. Write it as a balanced argument using sentence openers like 'some people say' and 'however'. Watch the video below to help you structure your article.

Remember to keep those Corona Virus diaries up to date!

Science

We're going to try and do a 'distance learning' experiment over the next few days. We were meant to be doing this during the last week of school but we ran out of time. You will need for your experiment
  • A mixing bowl or other large container (big enough to fit your hand in).
  • Some ice (you can get freezing it now!)
  • Thin latex gloves or if you don't have these, a sandwich bag will do just fine!
  • some margarine, butter or lard (lard is cheapest if mum or dad are going out shopping, but use anything you have in your house if you can).
  • A clock or stopwatch.
  • Your Home learning journals to write down your findings.

Please write the following into your Home Learning Books ready to complete the investigation:

Title: 'The effects Polar Animals fat layer has on their insulation ability'.
You can then write your prediction and your materials list ready to work on the experiment.

I'll upload a video doing the experiment to show you how either later this week or on Monday next week!

Stay Happy Year 6! Good luck with today's work!

How long does the English have to be?? Does it have to be a certain amount of paragraphs or any length?

No particular length Lenagh, you're probably aiming for 5 paragraphs... maybe around a page. Thankyou!

What do we predict for the science? I’m not quite sure...

Hi Lenagh. We're going to be looking at how long you can hold your hand in ice without anything on it, compared to when its covered in lard or butter or margarine, compared to being in an empty glove (or bag) and then filling the glove (or bag) with the margarine, lard or butter to simulate the fat and skin of a polar animal like a Polar Bear. Sorry I should have tried to make that clearer! Does that help? :-)
