Family Fun in the Rain

30/4/2020

Wow, Mrs Adams family's boats look amazing. I wonder who will win the race!

Good Morning everyone. My daughter Mia and I are up early and ready to go puddle hunting today!
Can you and your family go for a walk in the rain too? See how many puddles you can find to jump in. Have a puddle jumping competition. Who can make the biggest splash? Who can find the most puddles!
If you really don't want to put your waterproofs on and venture out in the rain, you could play Rain Drop Racing. Choose a window in your house and every member of the family picks a raindrop. Have a race to see whose raindrop gets to the bottom  of the window first!
You could make a medal or a trophy for the winners of either the rain drop race or the puddle jumping competition!
Happy jumping....Enjoy your day everyone!

Hi everyone, just to let you know that from today all literacy and maths tasks will be posted on Google classroom. This page will be used to post a fun task that all the family can take part in! #we'reallinthistogether!

Yesterday myself, Mr Adams, Erin and Rosie had a boat making competition using items from our recycling!  Can you work out who made which boat?  Today we are off out in the rain to find a big puddle to see if they float!  Wish us luck!

Can you make a boat and test it to see if it can float?  If you can't find a puddle you could test it in the sink or the bath!

Have fun,
Mrs Adams and family

We are going to continue using the same story 'The Snail and The Whale'. Yesterday we looked at setting, and today we are going to look at Character.

Watch/read/listen to The Snail and The Whale again. What characters are there in the story? Make a list of all the characters that you can identify in the story. Who are the main characters? Which character is your favourite? Can you write a profile of your favourite character?
Either use the picture of the snail or the whale below or you can draw a big circle on a large piece of paper. Inside the shape can you write how your chosen character is feeling at different points in the story? On the outside of the shape can you describe what the character is like (looks and personality). We look forward to seeing your ideas, after you upload them to Google Classroom.

Welcome to a new week of home learning.
Today we have set you a problem solving activity. Use real coins if you can, to work through the problem. Use paper to write down your workings if you need to, and remember to talk about anything you don't understand or need a little bit of help with. Don't forget all the activities are on Google Classroom, and you can upload it to google classroom once you think you have solved the problem. You can also send us messages about the work and we will mark it once it's uploaded.

Monday 27th April - Literacy Activity

Good morning and welcome to another week of home learning. It has been a glorious weekend. I hope that you have enjoyed staying safe in your garden.

We thought we would use the story of The Snail and The Whale by Julia Donaldson this week. Don’t worry if you haven’t got the book, as The Snail and The Whale is available to watch on BBC iplayer for free, and you can also find various readings of it in youtube.
Today I would like you to watch/listen/read the story of The Snail and The Whale. Focus on the places that the Snail visited with the Whale on his exciting adventure:
1. Black rocks
2. Icebergs
3. Caves beneath the waves
4. Fiery mountains and golden sands
5. Tropical island
6. Tourist beach
7. The school
Can you draw and describe the things she saw on the way? Please can you describe the places using descriptive sentences. Eg The Snail saw towering, gleaming white icebergs soaring into the vast blue sky. It might help to brainstorm some description words first for each setting. Think about the description words that are used in the story, and try and add some of your own.
Remember you are practising your handwriting and drawing skills too. Don’t forget your High five sentences:
1. Full stops and capital letters
2. Handwriting is neat
3. My sentences make sense (read them back to yourself to make sure)
4. Clever spelling (use your phonics to help sound out words)
5. Use interesting words. (describing words, connecting words, sentence starters)
We look forward to your wonderful descriptions.

Friday 24th April - Fun Day Friday!

24/4/2020

Happy Friday everyone,
Can you believe another week has passed?  We’ve all enjoyed seeing your amazing work again this week and know it’s not easy to stay focused at home but you’re doing a fabulous job. We’ve loved speaking to lots of you on the phone throughout the week which has made us miss you even more!

Literacy Task
This week you’ve thought of lots of words that link to the seaside/beach and even added adjectives to them so today your writing challenge is to write an `I wish……` poem..
Success Criteria:
-Write the title –  I wish……..
-Think about and talk with a grown up about different things you wish for.  This could be as crazy as wishing sharks had wings or it might be about what you will do when the germs have gone e.g. visit a local beach/go on holidays to a seaside location.
-Write 5 sentences (more if you want to) stating with I wish………
-Include adjectives (describing words) in your sentences
-Keep your handwriting neat and try to remember which are the tall letters and which letters go under the line.
Extra Challenge - Can you make your poem rhyme? (not essential)

Here’s one as an example:
I wish I was an elegant dolphin swimming and jumping over the crashing waves.
I wish I could find a big sparkly treasure chest hidden in the deep dark caves.

Have lots of fun writing these and we can’t wait to read your wishes later on when you send them to us on Google Classroom.

Maths
Well done to everyone who has completed this week’s multiplication challenges! Today we would like you to practise all the skills you’ve learnt this week (multiplying by 2, 5, 10 and maybe 3 and 4)  by playing `Hit The Button` game on Topmarks -
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-he-button
In this game you will develop your mental maths skills as you play against the clock to answer multiplication questions.
Follow the link above and begin by selecting Times Tables , then choose the times tables you want to challenge yourself with (2, 3,4, 5 or 10) under the heading Hit the answer.
If you want to challenge yourself even further you could also play Hit the question .
Remember our times tables can be tricky so try to practise them regularly at home and use the songs we posted on Tuesday as a fun way to help you. Here are the links to the 3 and 4 times tables’ songs if you are confident with your 2, 5 and 10s.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_cn87hOCDM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkcIJn5HrMI
We look forward to hearing what your best scores are and finding out which times tables you can get the highest score with!  Have Fun and a great weekend!

Home Learning Activities for Thursday 23rd April.

Good morning! Your tasks for today are below. Remember to log on to Google Classroom to send us your lovely work!

Literacy
Think back to your Literacy activity on Monday, when you drew things that you might find at the beach. Using these drawings, or completely new ideas if you want, think of five things you might find on the beach and write them down.
Next, write as many adjectives as you can to describe each item.
Use your adjectives to write some interesting sentences about the items you have chosen.  For example:
Shells – beautiful, colourful, shiny, small, delicate, smooth, bumpy, round, long.
The beautiful, shiny shell was long and smooth and underneath it was bumpy and colourful. (I'm sure yours will be even better than this!)

Remember to use Hi 5 sentences! (capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, clever spelling and your sentence needs to make sense.)
And don't forget, share your work with us on Google Classroom.

Maths

Have a look at the task below. There are lots of multiplication questions here. Please choose which part of the task you think you need to work on.
It would be great if you could have a go at answering the questions in parts 1-4
x2, x5 and x10. Remember, you can use objects to help you.
If you find this tricky, try practising counting in 2's, 5's or 10's with a grown up and have a go at parts 1 and 2.

To challenge yourselves try the whole thing!
For a little help you could use objects, or you could draw a number line to help you and draw your 'hops' in 3's or 4's to find the correct answers.
As always, upload your work to Google Classroom so we can have a look.
Have a great day!

Home Learning Activities for Wednesday 22nd April

22/4/2020

Good morning everyone. We hope you are enjoying the sunshine out in your back gardens. Don't forget to keep reading though...it's one of the most important things you can do while home learning. Don't forget to log onto Google Classroom. both activities are on there and you can interact with us too.

Here are today's two activities:

Literacy: Today is an oracy activity, all about speaking. It's thought the tongue twister 'she sells seashells' is about a real seashell seller named Mary Anning (1799 – 1847). Mary Anning was more than a seashell seller. She collected fossils and contributed important information about prehistoric life to the scientific community. She supported herself selling fossils to geologists and to tourists. Below is the tongue twister:

She Sells Seashells by the Seashore
She sells seashells by the seashore,
The shells she sells are seashells, I'm sure.
So if she sells seashells on the seashore,
Then I'm sure she sells seashore shells.

Can you read the tongue twister? Are there any rhyming words? Is there any alliteration in the poem? Why do you think it is tricky to read? Can you find any other tongue twisters? Practise reading and reciting this tongue twister and any others you know or can find, and then record yourself reciting your tongue twisters and upload to google classroom.
If you would like something more to do, you could also find out more information about Mary Anning and her life.

Maths: We have a multiplication game for you today. You can either print out the game board or draw it on a piece of paper. Play against someone in your house. Take turns to roll a dice, find that number multiplied by 2, 5 or 10 on the grid and circle/colour in the answer in your chosen colour. The first person to get three circled/coloured numbers in a line in any direction wins. You can play more than once...you could say the best of three!
If your child finds it difficult to multiply, have objects such as Lego, blocks, counters etc that children can physically use to make the multiplication. such as 3 x 4 You may get 3 groups of four counters/Lego pieces etc to help your child either count in sets 3, 6, 9,12 or count them one by one. Don't forget to upload to google classroom for feedback and points.
