Number Hunt/ Jack and the Beanstalk

Morning Boys, Girls and Parents.
 It’s another dry day. Today I thought we could go on a number hunt. This activity and be done inside or outside. Also for when it's time to be inside I've added the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to conclude the topic 'Will you Read Me a Story'

You will need: Numbers 1-20 ( draw numbers on the back of old cardboard boxes, envelopes,  chalk or something that will draw on the floor) Not got any of these items, walk up and down the street, keeping your social distance and look at numbers on doors and car number plates. Gather objects to 20...stones, flowers, sticks etc.

  • Scatter the numbers around your chosen area. Ask the child to find a given number. Can they say the number once they have found it. If they get it wrong don’t worry but please tell them the number they have found and repeat your instruction of ‘Find number… Where is… etc. Extend this by then counting out the amount on the card. E.g 'This is number 5 now lets count 5 sticks, toys etc.

  • For some of your children this will be to easy. Extend by asking them to find a number to 20 and asking them what number is one more or less. Alternately, ask them to find all the odd/even numbers. We have been practising this in school. Get you child to be the teacher and see what they come up with. You can also extend this by asking them to write out a sum; ‘find the number and a add 1/2 E.g 10+1=11

Use finding numbers in your environment and everyday life. Look at the back of food packets, adverts, street signs etc.

Today's story is Jack and the Beanstalk. Below I've uploaded a QR story which is sign assisted for my children who need it. YouTube here I come haha.

You can use this story as a share and read with your child. Who can they see?; What can they see in the Giants castle etc or ask your child to draw a picture of of the Giant and what they think they might see in the Giants castle.  Alternately ask your child to match a selection of shoes and put into size order. The little ones in the class will need help with this. Below are links to a Youtube cartoon and song;

Please look on Active learn (You will need to login) and Topmarks (free)online sites as there are resources to help your child. Could I also ask if you could leave me a comment to let me know how you are finding this class page. Enjoy your day.
