It’s another beautiful day so let’s go into the garden. If you can’t get outside, don’t worry this game works indoors too. Let’s play hide and seek!
You will need:
A range of your children’s favourite toys.
This game will focus on extending your child’s receptive (what they understand) and expressive language (what they say). Hide the toys around your chosen area. Be mindful that the children will still need to see the toys.
- Ask the child to find a toy (Spider man, dolly, etc.) This focuses on your child’s listening and receptive skills. If you wish to make this harder extend the number of toys to find.
- If this is too easy for your child change your instruction to 'find who’s on the bench, under the swing, in the flower pot' etc. At this point you will be modelling the language. The children will only need to find the toy.
First step only place the toy on/under/in. Work on one concept at a time.
Next step place the toy in front/behind/next to. Work on concept at a time.
- The next step is to ask your child to find a given toy 'E.g. you say 'where's /find Spider man?' Your child finds the toy. This time you will be working on their expressive language (what they say) So now your child will need to express. Your child may need this modelled with a sentence starter the first few go's. (E.g Spider Man is ...... ) Only place the toys on/under/in. As above only work on one concept at a time. Once your child has this place toys in front/behind and next to and ask your child to express.
Hope you have fun playing this game. This game will need to be played over the coming weeks. Please, where you can model the use of the prepositions in everyday language/life. Use a photo album/ photo, story books to model the language as stated above. Here are two YouTube songs that your children enjoy in our class.
Please check your child's active learn page. Here I've allocated books, some maths games and teaching links to help you as parents deliver. I'm going to post something everyday so you can scroll back and fore. For the children who integrate into other classes please check their class too. Hope you all have a wonderful day.
