Morning Boys, Girls and Parents.
Friday in our class means dough disco. We do this every Friday without fail. Most children, when given play dough will instinctively be motivated to explore its soft and responsive sensory qualities. They squeeze it, poke it, squash it, pick it up and pat it down. Working with play dough with their hands develops the child’s large and small muscles and aids eye-hand coordination. It helps to improve fine motor skills which is beneficial to daily activities. It helps to strengthen small fingers, hands and wrists. I know for some of your children to touch the dough can be a challenge as it's not their favourite thing to touch. If you set a 'now and next' so they know the activity will end. For my little ones who eat it, we use a shop brought dough as it's not high in salt. No magic cure for this apart from keep a close eye on them, haha. If you make your own dough you can use that as an activity to do together.
You will need:
Make your room as dark as possible
disco ball/light
Dough
busy fingers!
Basically we make the room dark, turn on the disco ball and we play some favourite pop songs. I've added some YouTube links of some of the actions. You can make the strength of the dough different to make it more challenging to manipulate. I've added a recipe below in case you don't have a pot handy. Once you completed some of the actions the children and use cutters, rollers and build their own creations.
