Please have a read of the topic letter above for a brief summary of this term's topic.

Thursday 7th January 2021
I hope you enjoyed yesterdays rhyming activities. We are going to continue with rhyming in Literacy this week.
Literacy -
www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/1/cake-bake

Click on the link above and play this rhyming game. Phonics play is currently allowing parents free access during this lockdown. Ask your child to think of all the words they know that rhyme with cat. How many words can they think of? Rhyming is a hard concept for many children and this is a very important step in their pre-reading development. Spend lots of time going over rhymes and sharing/singing/reading rhymes together.
Maths - counting amounts to 5 and to 10

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/teddy-numbers
Click on the link above and practise counting numbers to 5 or to 10. Topmarks has some lovely games for children to play which will help them develop their number skills. Alternatively, you can gather some of your child's favourite toys and ask them to carefully count a given number e.g. put 4 teddies on the table, put 5 teddies on the table, put 6 cars on the track and so on. Make sure that your child is carefully counting by ensuring that they touch each item with their finger as they go along. This is called touch counting.
Topic activity -

Click on the download below and see how many pets you can name! What is your favourite pet? Think of your favourite pet/animal and find out what is likes to eat and what it likes to drink.
