We follow the 'Letters and Sounds' scheme for phonics at Ogmore Vale, and in the Nursery we concentrate on Phase 1. Phase 1 is an important stage and one that can not be rushed. We are currently working on Aspect 1 - General Sound discrimination. Children won't be able to hear the differences in letter sounds unless they can differentiate between general sounds e.g a loud car is a different sound to a leaf rustling, a long sound is different to a short sound. For more information you can click on these links www.letters-and-sounds.com/phase-1.html
Half Term Homework
Over half term, go on a listening walk and stop and listen to all the sounds you can hear. Is it a loud sound or a quiet sound? is it a long sound or a short sound?
Try some of the suggested activities on the attached document.
This week we are learning about hibernation and we are learning that Hedgehogs and other animals hibernate for the Winter. Watch this clip together and learn about how hedgehogs get ready for hibernation.
We have helped our Hedgehog friend get ready in class today too.
We've also been busy making a repeating pattern in our Maths work using the Autumn leaves we found on our walk.
This week we are going to be looking for signs of Autumn. If you go on a walk this week can you collect some twigs, leaves, acorns and cones and bring them into school for our nature table. We will be reading the book 'Leaf Man' and exploring all things autumn!. Here is our Autumn themed Tuff spot.
The children have all settled in really well and are enjoying our topic Ready Teddy Go!
This week we have been looking at Goldilocks and the Three Bears and we have been making and tasting porridge. We tasted plain porridge, porridge with syrup and porridge with chocolate. Chocolate porridge was our favourite! Here are some photos of our themed tuff spots.
Please remember to put your child's snack pot, water bottle and lunch box on the trolley each morning as we can't go searching in bags. All items should be named and snacks should be inside pots. Please can you put items in your child's lunchbox that they can open for themselves to help stop cross contamination e.g. crisps in a pot or part open items.
Here is our class topic web for this term.
