I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you all a very happy new year. Online learning for the Nursery class will be posted on here daily, so please check this page each day. There will be one Literacy based activity, one Numeracy based activity and one joint family activity. New January starter children are welcome to join in and take part.  I hope you enjoy all of the activities. They will be practical and fun and easy to do.

Our new topic for the Spring Term is 'Wonder Pets'.  Below you will find a Topic Web for this term. It outlines the areas of learning that we will be focusing on. It really doesn't matter if you don't have a pet, we are looking at different animals in turn and how to care for them as well as looking at materials and their properties.

Literacy  - We follow the Letters and Sounds programme and we are on Phase 1 www.letters-and-sounds.com/phase-1.html
Nursery Rhymes
Children need to build a stock of rhymes through hearing them repeated over and over. Share some Nursery rhymes today and sing some songs that rhyme. Read/sing Nursery rhymes with plenty of intonation and expression so that the children tune into the rhythm of the language and the rhyming words. Rhyming teaches children how language works. It helps them notice and work with the sounds within words. When children are familiar with a nursery rhyme or rhyming book, they learn to anticipate the rhyming word. This prepares them to make predictions when they read, another important reading skill.

Maths
Our favourite number rhyme is '5 little monkey's jumping on the bed' Gather 5 animal teddies that you have and sing the rhyme together. Change the word 'monkey' to whatever animal you have e.g. if you have 5 dog teddies you could sing 5 little doggies jumping on the bed...or mix and match animals to whatever you have at home. Before you start singing count the teddies forwards from 1 to 5 and then backwards from 5 to 1. Stretch your child by asking questions e.g what number comes next? what number comes before? what is after e.g 4? what is after e.g. 2? What is one more than 2? what is one more than 4?

Topic -
What pet do you have? What pet would you like to have? I have a pet dog called Waffle (he's a cockapoo like the one from CBeebies) and a pet tortoise called Lettuce. However I would like to have a pet Owl! Draw or paint a picture of an amazing pet! It could be a lion or a snake for those of you who are very brave! Please save these paintings or drawings so that I can put them on the wall when we get back to school!
