Here's another day of fun packed activities. We hope you have lots of fun learning.
Maths Game 1: This week we are looking at shapes. Today's shape is a rectangle. You will need a large bowl and something that you can bury shapes e.g. sand, rice, flour, jelly etc. Then hide some objects that are a rectangle shape e.g. margarine lids, Chinese tub lids, remote controls, shoe box lid etc. Then I want you to dig for them. Each time you find the shape say or sign its name. I've added some ideas for you. To extend this task you see if you can match the rectangle shape to the container.
Game 2: Today we are going to reinforce the properties of 2D shapes. Parents I would like you to draw a large shape for your child e.g. circle, square, rectangle, triangle pentagon etc. Using playdough challenge your child to trace the shape, discussing and they build e.g. "a square has 4 straight sides that are the same length, lets count". Once your child is able to create the shapes, extend this task by taking away the visual support. Can they remember how many straight sides a square has?
Game 3: Geo-board You will need to open Active Learn for this task 'Geo board Tool' This teaching tool is used to make 2D shapes. How to use the teaching tool

Elmo and Friends Using puppet or your child's soft toys role play problem that your child might encounter in school e.g. their friend falls over. The first step to developing empathy is emotional literacy, or the ability to read or recognize your own emotions and the emotions of others so that you can figure out what they are feeling. For young children and children that have autism these skills will need to be taught and lots of experience is needed so they know what to do in different situations. Please click the button and play the game 'Elmo's School Friends'. Here Elmo experience lots of different situations. |
Literacy
Please choose a book from Active Learn and share a book together. Alternately look through a favourite story book. Enjoying and sharing books leads to children seeing them as a source of pleasure and interest and motivates them to value reading.
Game 1: Mrs Browning has a box Turn a box on its side with the opening facing away from the children. One by one place between four and six familiar noisy items (e.g. a set of keys, crisp packet, squeaky toy) into the box, pausing to name them and demonstrate the sound each one makes.
Sing to the tune of ‘Old MacDonald’ but using your own name or one of the children’s:
Mrs…has a box ee i ee i o
And in that box she has a…
Stop. Gesture and ask your child to listen.
Handle one of the objects in the box, out of sight, to make a noise. Ask your child to take it in turns to guess what is making the sound. Continue the song but imitating the sound using your voice. With a zzz zzz here and a zzz zzz there… Allow your child to take it in turns at making a noise from inside the box and use their names as you sing.

Game 2: Today I would like you to listen to The BBC school radio 'Listen and Play- On the Farm'. This show comes from the Farm. These type of games develop children’s listening skills and awareness of sounds in the environment.
Game 3: Today I want you to play a describing game called 'Guess what?'. This game helps develop and extend your child's vocabulary. You can make it as hard or as easy as you like. I've added a short 'how to' clip. You will find this clip and many more on the Parent Portal button on the right hand side of this page.
Topic Today task is a bit of creative fun. Let's make a Gingerbread Man out of a toilet/kitchen roll holder. I've added a clip of instructions and materials needed.
Keep Safe and well.
