Maths Game 1: Todays shape is a triangle. Today I would like you to see if your child can recognise shapes using food. This is a great activity to do just before lunch or snack time. They will learn through life skills. I would like you to make a sandwich together and cut your sandwich into triangles. Is there any other shapes that you can make? |
Game 2: Draw a 2D Shape Watch the YouTube clip 'Shape Shifting' as a warm up activity. You will need a white board and pen and a range of 2D shapes. Show your child a circle. Ask them to help you describe it. It is round. It has no straight sides. It has no corners. Its edge is smooth. Parents demonstrate drawing a circle on the whiteboard. Talk it through as you draw. It is one round shape. Then ask your child to draw a circle on their whiteboards. Talk it through with them. They can have a few goes until they get a good circle. Repeat for a square, triangle and rectangle. Which shape do children think was easiest to draw? Why?
Just for fun! There's nothing like a good dance! Join in with the song/dance 'Shake Your Sillies Out'
Literacy
Today's activities all focus on fine motor skills that will lead to handwriting.

Game 1: You will need to make these easy squishy sensory bags for this task. You will need: hair gel, zip lock bags, food colouring, glitter and craft stars (optional). Please the the clip to see how it's done. Then using their fingers, challenge your child to make different patterns e.g. wavy lines, circles, straight lines etc. I have sent home some patterns so you could use these under your sensory bag.. Shaving foam on a table will work just as well if you don't have these in your home.
Topic Can you dance like the Gingerbread Man? This clip is just for fun. Dance along to the Cookie Boogie!
This is one of my favourite Gingerbread Man songs. Please sing-a-long. Parents challenge your child to remember the order of those who chased him. Just for fun I've added some images of hand print art. You could recreate your own story.
Keep safe,
