This week we are settling back in but there's still lots of learning taking place.
We are;
Conserving numbers to 10/20
Counting 0-100
Counting sets of objects/sounds
Locating numbers 0-100 on a number square/number bead string
Chanting number rhymes and exploring number through games.
Literacy
We have started looking at these books through Group Reading. Our youngest children are exploring 'The Three Little Pigs' story sack, while the older children are discussing the story 'Feed The Birds'. Today we even fed the birds with bird seeds. We didn't see the birds come but I'm sure they did!
Phonics
The sound of the week is 'Dd'
We shall be writing/mark marking
We are recapping on our tricky words

There are still books and some maths resources on www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. You will need to login. If you need passwords again, please let us know.

Morning Boys and Girls,

Friday is here again. Some good news. Next week is half term then we will be returning to school soon. We can't wait to see you all again! There will be no online learning next week.
Game 1: Shape hunt Today's game is hide and seek, but with shapes!  I would like you to hide some shapes around your house or garden. Make sure that your child can see them e.g On the bench, under the swing, on the sofa, under the table. Challenge your child to say or sign the shape as they find it. Have fun! I've also added a interactive sorting game.
Shape Monsters
Picture
Game 2: Today I would like you to use the shapes you have been learning about this week to make a shape picture. You can either use plastic shapes or shaped paper. What creation will your shapes make? I've added some ideas and some shape colouring sheet.
Shape colouring
Game 3: Today I would like you to play this interactive game. It involves finding the mirror image along the line of symmetry. Todays images are all pictures, but look carefully it might try to trick you!

Literacy
Game 1: Today I would like you to choose some rhymes from CBeebies, Something Special with Mr Tumble. This is something for you to think about..... Find a toy that could represent a rhyme e.g. a toy duck could be '5 liittle ducks' a fish could be '1,2'3'4'5 once I caught a fish alive' a star might be 'Twinkle Twinkle. Gather these toys as you go and make a rhyme time bag. This task teaches you child the rhyme and gives them a choice to the rhyme they want to hear. Parents you must stick to the same rhyme to match each toy. Your children will make connections and make a choice even though they may not be able to verbalise the name of the song.
Mr Tumbles Rhyme Time
Game 2: Following Instructions. This is a physical activity game. Please watch the Speech Link clip that shows you how to play. You will find this game and more on the Blue button 'Parent Portal' on the right hand side of the page.
Game 3: Similar to game 2, this game involves following 3 key word instructions to colour a picture. Don't worry if you haven't got a printer, you can use an image in a colouring book. Look at the questions/instructions and apply it to your picture.

Morning Boys and Girls.

We're nearly there. Just two more days of activities to go until half term. Here is another day of fun packed activities for you. We hope you are enjoying them. We've tried to keep the majority practical for you.
Maths
Game 1:
Todays shape is a triangle. Today I would like you to see if your child can recognise shapes using  food. This is a great activity to do just before lunch or snack time. They will learn through life skills. I would like you to make a sandwich together and cut your sandwich into triangles. Is there any other shapes that you can make?
Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck
Picture
Game 2: Draw a 2D Shape Watch the YouTube clip 'Shape Shifting'  as a warm up activity.
You will need a white board and pen and a range of 2D shapes.
Show your child a circle. Ask them to help you describe it.
It is round. It has no straight sides. It has no corners. Its edge is smooth. Parents demonstrate drawing a circle on the whiteboard. Talk it through as you draw. It is one round shape.  Then ask your  child to draw a circle on their whiteboards. Talk it through with them. They can have a few goes until they get a good circle. Repeat for a square, triangle and rectangle. Which shape do children think was easiest to draw? Why?
Game 3: Symmetry Butterflies Similar to yesterday's activity, today I would like you to make the butterflies attached symmetrical. You will need colouring pens for this task. Make both sides the same!
Symmetry Butterfly
Just for fun!
There's nothing like a good dance! Join in with the song/dance 'Shake Your Sillies Out'
Literacy
Today's activities all focus on fine motor skills that will lead to handwriting.
Game 1: You will need to make these easy squishy sensory bags for this task. You will need: hair gel, zip lock bags, food colouring, glitter and craft stars (optional). Please the the clip to see how it's done. Then using their fingers, challenge your child to make different patterns e.g. wavy lines, circles, straight lines etc. I have sent home some patterns so you could use these under your sensory bag.. Shaving foam on a table will work just as well if you don't have these in your home.
Game 2:  Using the sensory bag in game 1, I would like your child to experiment with letter formation. I have sent some letters home, if you don't have them you could write a letter on paper and place under the bag. I've attached some letter groupings. Start with the curly letters on the top line.
Letter Formation groupings
A-Z tracing
Game 3: Can you write the letters on your own? Use the template to guide you. Practice on lined paper. Can you rest your letters on the line?
Can you write your letters?
Topic
Can you dance like the Gingerbread Man? This clip is just for fun. Dance along to the Cookie Boogie!

This is one of my favourite Gingerbread Man songs. Please sing-a-long. Parents challenge your child to remember the order of those who chased him. Just for fun I've added some images of hand print art. You could recreate your own story.
Keep safe,

Morning Boys and Girls

We hope you are enjoying the activities. As always we would love to see photo's of you learning. Please send your photos or video clips to the email address that you will find to the right hand side of this page.
Game 1: Feely bag Todays shape is a square. I would like you to gather a range of square objects and place them in a feely bag (pillow case) e.g. lid of a Tupperware container, square puzzle piece, book, coaster, toy, envelope etc. Let your child feel around and pull one out at a time. Challenge your child to name/sign the shape.

Game 2: Still thinking about the properties of 2 D shapes, today I would like you to play this game with your child. Parents, you will need to read the text to your child so they can sort the shapes correctly. Start at Level 1 and work your way up. We have played this game in school. Can your child remember?
2D Shapes Carroll Diagrams
Game 3: Begin to recognise basic line symmetry. This is a learn through exploration task. You will need paints, paper and an outline of a butterfly or ladybird. Your child will paint symmetrical ladybirds and butterflies, e.g. by folding a piece of paper, painting an outline of a ladybird or butterfly on one side of the fold, painting spots on the same side, then folding and pressing a hand along the fold to create a symmetrical pattern. Parents discuss with your child that to make a symmetrical pattern it will be 'exactly the same' on both sides.

The Gingerbread Man didn't want to cross the river, why? Couldn't he swim or did he know that something would happen to his body? For an exciting way to explore Science with your little ones, why not set up this Gingerbread Man in different puddles experiment? I've added the links below. All you need is four bowls- fill each one with a different liquid to make your puddles. In this experiment, we used water, oil, fruit juice and vinegar. Put one gingerbread man in each of the bowls. Make sure you make a prediction before you do so- what will happen to them? Don't worry if your child isn't able to make predictions on their own yet. Parents you are introducing them to "I wonder questions". A beginning step to spark their interest.
Gingerbread Man in Different Puddles
Question Card
Fine Motor Hammer it!
These ideas may get your house messy!!
Below are some ideas for using a toy hammer. You may need to use a child's plastic hammer or something similar. All of the activities are to enhance your child's fine motor and co ordination skills. Happy hammering!
Literacy
Game 1: Sounds Shakers Today I would like you to make a sound shaker. Partially fill either opaque plastic bottles with noisy materials e.g. peas, pebbles, marbles, shells, coins). Ask the children to shake the bottles, listen to the sounds. Do they make a loud or quiet sound? You could use these bottles to accompany a favourite song. I've attached a 'how to' YouTube clip.
Game 2: Musical corners/ Initial sound Game Put a chair/cushion in each corner of the room, or outdoors. Collect four sets of objects, each set containing objects with names that start with the same sound. e.g. string, soldier, socks, snake, then in another corner tomato, tea, teddy, Twix.  (Four different initial sounds are represented.) Keep back one object from each set and place the remaining sets on each of the four chairs/cushions. At first, the children sit in a circle or facing you. Name each of the four sets of objects, giving emphasis to the initial sound. Explain that now there will be music to move around or dance to and that when the music stops the children are to listen. You will show them an object and they should go to the corner where they think it belongs.
Game 3: This is a quick and easy game to reinforce Capital and lower case letters. You will need an empty kitchen roll and blank stickers. Randomly write capital letters onto the tube and the lower case letters onto the stickers. Challenge your child to match the letters up. I've added a letter stripe to help them.

Morning Boys and Girls,

Here's another day of fun packed activities. We hope you have lots of fun learning.
Maths
Game 1: This week we are looking at shapes. Today's shape is a rectangle. You will need a large bowl and something that you can bury shapes e.g. sand, rice, flour, jelly etc. Then hide some objects that are a rectangle shape e.g. margarine lids, Chinese tub lids, remote controls, shoe box lid etc. Then I want you to dig for them. Each time you find the shape say or sign its name. I've added some ideas for you. To extend this task you see  if you can match the rectangle shape to the container.
Game 2: Today we are going to reinforce the properties of 2D shapes. Parents I would like you to draw a large shape for your child e.g. circle, square, rectangle, triangle pentagon etc. Using playdough challenge your child to trace the shape, discussing and they build e.g. "a square has 4 straight sides that are the same length, lets count". Once your child is able to create the shapes, extend this task by taking away the visual support. Can they remember how many straight sides a square has?
Picture
Game 3: Geo-board You will need to open Active Learn for this task 'Geo board Tool' This teaching tool is used to make 2D shapes. How to use the teaching tool
  • Drag any side or corner of a shape to a pin on the geo-board to adjust the shape and size of the shape.
  • Use the Options panel to add or remove shapes. As above this will test your child's knowledge of the properties of 2D shapes.
Copy Me Geo boards
Example Geo-Board
Elmo and Friends
Using puppet or your child's soft toys role play problem that your child might encounter in school e.g. their friend falls over.  The first step to developing empathy is emotional literacy, or the ability to read or recognize your own emotions and the emotions of others so that you can figure out what they are feeling. For young children and children that have autism these skills will need to be taught and lots of experience is needed so they know what to do in different situations. Please click the button and play the game 'Elmo's School Friends'. Here Elmo experience lots of different situations.
Elmo's School Friends
Literacy
Please choose a book from Active Learn and share a book together. Alternately look through a favourite story book. Enjoying and sharing books leads to children seeing them as a source of pleasure and interest and motivates them to value reading.

Game 1: Mrs Browning has a box Turn a box on its side with the opening facing away from the children. One by one place between four and six familiar noisy items (e.g. a set of keys, crisp packet, squeaky toy) into the box, pausing to name them and demonstrate the sound each one makes.
Sing to the tune of ‘Old MacDonald’ but using your own name or one of the children’s:
Mrs…has a box ee i ee i o
And in that box she has a…
Stop. Gesture and ask your child to listen.
Handle one of the objects in the box, out of sight, to make a noise. Ask your child to take it in turns to guess what is making the sound. Continue the song but imitating the sound using your voice. With a zzz zzz here and a zzz zzz there… Allow your child to take it in turns at making a noise from inside the box and use their names as you sing.
Game 2: Today I would like you to listen to The BBC school radio 'Listen and Play- On the Farm'. This show comes from the Farm. These type of games develop children’s listening skills and awareness of sounds in the environment.
Listen and Play-On the Farm
Game 3: Today I want you to play a describing game called 'Guess what?'. This game helps develop and extend your child's vocabulary. You can make it as hard or as easy as you like. I've added a short 'how to' clip. You will find this clip and many more on the Parent Portal button on the right hand side of this page.
Topic
Today task is a bit of creative fun. Let's make a Gingerbread Man out of a toilet/kitchen roll holder. I've added a clip of instructions and materials needed.

Morning Boys and Girls,

We hope you had a wonderful weekend. Only one more week of home learning before half term. Please remember that the games below are progressive so you will only need to choose one from each subject. Parents decide on the game your child can access.
Welsh
Sing-a-long with Mr Hapus as he labels his feelings in Welsh.
Hapus ydw i - I am Mr Happy
Trist ydw i - I am Mr Sad
Tawel ydw i -I am Mr Quiet
Swnllyd ydw i - I am Mr Noisy
Maths
This week we will be learning about shape.
Game 1: This week I would like you to explore a 2D shape a day. Today's shape is a circle.  I would like you to make a circle art painting. You could use a sponge, a potato, a beans tin, plastic bottle, bingo dabber, end of building blocks etc. Fill the page with circles. Name or sign as you make your picture. Take a look at the images to give you some ideas.
Game 2: Sorting and naming 2D shapes. You will need a range of shapes e.g. square, rectangle, circle, triangle, pentagon etc. I know that these shapes might be tricky but have a look in your Tupperware cupboard, recycling box or cut shapes from paper . You'll be surprised at what you will find around the house. Place all your shapes in a basket, muddling them all up. Challenge your child to find all of the squares, circles etc. Can they tell you something about the shape e.g. a square has four straight sides that are all the same length. I've added some images to give you ideas.
Game 3: What I am? Recognise, name and describe squares, rectangles, circles, triangles, pentagon and hexagon. For this game you will need a range of shapes. Lay them out in front of your child. Now we are going to play a 'What am I game?  Ask them to point to different shapes, using shape names or describing properties. E.g. Point to a shape with a curved side. Point to a triangle.  Repeat for different shapes.

Feelings masks
Expressing how we feel and labelling it can be difficult.  Children need opportunities and experiences. Here is a lovely, creative experience so they can learn through play. It Please open the button to watch how to make feelings masks from CBeebies. You will need:
Scrape cardboard
a pencil
a bowl
coloured pens/crayons
lollipop sticks
scissors
celeotape

Literacy
Game 1: Snowy Day Picture Scene
Pictures provide context, which helps children make educated guesses about words that are unfamiliar. This teaches children to look at illustrations when they encounter difficult words and to think about what the picture shows and what is happening in the story. Using  'single picture scenes' also helps strengthen working memory. Below I would like you to open the 'Snowy Day Image' Look and discuss with your child. I've added some prompt cards for this beginning level.
Snowy Day Image
Prompt questions
Game 2:  Farm Picture Scene Similar to game 1. I've added a Farm picture scene and some prompt cards. This time the questions are progressively harder. As above look at the picture together. Can you make any connections to the picture. I might start with "I can see a dog. I have a dog. His name is Dexter".
Farm Scene and prompt questions
Topic
Did you all enjoy Friday's book called 'This Floats, that Sinks'? Did you conduct your own investigation? Today I would like you to gather some different objects. I would like you to find out if they are 'Fantastic Floaters or Super Sinker'. You will need: a coin, a pencil, a cotton ball, a crayon, rubber band and a stick. To extend this task I've added some recording sheets.
