Class 13 have really enjoyed their last week as pupils of OVPS. We had Sports' Day on Tuesday afternoon and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the leavers' festival on Thursday. We have also been looking back over our time in primary school and have written our memories.
I have been really impressed with the commitment and perseverance shown this week and well done to those children who have continued our theme of Japan at home. We have learned all about Sadako and the memorial built in her name in the town of Hiroshima. I'm looking forward to welcoming everyone back into school on Tuesday morning.Year 6 will be focusing on the country of Japan for the OV Olympics over the next fortnight. Make sure to take part in our home task - we are looking forward to seeing your creations.
Thank you Tanni for the message of support for our school
We had a great virtual workshop today with Show Racism the Red Card. We learned all about the causes and consequences of racism and we listened to the stories of many people who had suffered from racism. The charity was started by Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop who shared his own story and we also saw video clips from many other famous footballers. We now feel better equipped to understand and identify all forms of racism. Thank you to SRTRC for a very informative morning!
We have continued with our class book Rose Blanche this week. We found some of the themes quite emotional and so we used our empathy skills to write a description of what Rose saw through the barbed wire. We wrote our descriptions in pairs and used pasta punctuation - tortellini terrific work! Our fun day Friday was all about creativity and we used tissue paper as a background for our soldier pictures.
We've had a very busy start to our last half term in OVPS Our Funday Friday activity was based on Euro 2020. We have all taken part in a sweepstake and we had a quiz in teams. Well done to Maisie and Macy who were the class quiz champions (with the help of Miss Longley!). Have a lovely weekend!Well ... we've made it to Half Term! This week we finished our autobiographies on our new laptops. We were writing in role as David, the main character in the story who was saved from drowning by a fugitive German airman during WW2. Take a look at the writing by Rhys and Cohen. ![]()

We really enjoyed playing the healthy living board game and we even created and tested our own games. Finally, we moved Funday Friday to Thursday and watched the video of Friend or Foe with squash and popcorn.
Another busy week in Class 13! ![]() We are continuing with our theme 'A Child's War' and this week we learned all about rationing during World War 2. Food rationing was introduced in January 1940 and foods that were rationed included bacon, eggs, butter, sugar, tea and milk. We are also really enjoying our daily Boost sessions. This week we have focused on 'The Red Tree' by Shaun Tan. We had excellent discussions about the little girl in the book and why she was sad. We used our new laptops to record all our thoughts in a Jamboard. |
